    Description

High Grade Fr. 124 1862 Legal Donlon Plate Note
Fr. 124 1862 Legal Tender PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
A very scarce type in all grades and especially so in strong, problem-free condition. These were printed on delicate bond paper that was quite prone to the rapid fold-splitting which plagues many of the known examples. The face design has Alfred Jones'
    America
vignette, which appeared on the Demand Notes and earlier Obsolete notes. Green overprints and denomination ends add to the design beautifully. The back uses the first obligation text. This Series 22 piece was purchased from the October 1988 Stack's sale. At that time, it was the Donlon catalog plate note. The margins are complete and only close at the top left and lower right end. The seal is slightly light, but the green tint plate is vibrant. The back has near perfect centering and is boldly printed. There are no recorded Uncirculated notes of this early Legal Tender type, making this one of the finer examples known. PMG has only graded two notes Extremely Fine. This is worthy of close attention for its attractiveness and high grade.
