    Description

    Original WWII letter, written by a United States Marine Corps rifleman who served in the 4th Marine Division, with which he fought in the 1944 battles for the Marshall Islands, Saipan (where he was severely wounded), and in the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima.
    This original letter was written in December 1944, during training and preparations for the Iwo Jima battle. The cover has a scarce 4th Marine Division emblem affixed. (This is a rare type, used only during the interval between the Marianas campaign and the Iwo Jima battle). The content of this 2 page letter is interesting.
    This marine served in Regimental Weapons Company, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division.
